If you’ve walked through Coventry city centre, you’ve walked through the Upper Precinct and the Lower Precinct. Both came out of the rebuild after the Blitz, when the city chose to start again rather than patch up what it had lost.
There’s no Middle Precinct. I’ve always found that a bit odd, and a bit funny. So when I set up a studio here, the name was waiting for me.
It also describes what I want the studio to be. When Coventry’s bigger organisations need brand and marketing work, they often look to Birmingham or London. Its smaller businesses often make do with whatever they can find. Middle Precinct sits between the two: senior experience, close by, and built for the city rather than run from somewhere else.
I’ve spent twenty years in brand and marketing, mostly in payments and financial services, and most of that work was for companies a long way from where I live. I’d rather do it here, for the places I walk past every day.
I won’t be doing it alone. Coventry is full of designers, photographers, illustrators, writers and makers. The plan is to bring the right ones in on each project, not to compete with them. If that’s you, put yourself on the map.
These notes are where I’ll write about what we’re working on, who we’re working with, and the city itself. Some will be finished projects. For now, most will be work in progress.
If you’ve got something that needs sorting, get in touch. If you’d rather just talk it over, the coffee’s on me.
